Where To
in the Willamette Valley

Here's a curated list of where to eat, go wine tasting, shop and more in Oregon's wine country: our personal travel guide to the places we love most in Willamette Valley (including Newberg, Dundee, Carlton, McMinnville and Amity) and Portland metro areas. This is a work-in-progress - much more to come!

Eat

Red Hills Kitchen

Red Hills Kitchen

Elevated but still casual, the Red Hills team’s McMinnville outpost has become our favorite happy hour and brunch spot (the salmon bene is amazing). Their streetside patio is warm weather perfection. At the Atticus Hotel; open for dinner.
The Newbergundian

The Newbergundian

Delicious French-inspired options at approachable prices with warm, efficient hospitality. The wine by the glass list has lots of fun options at equally fun prices, so you can try a few new things. Our go-tos: the Fish & Chips, Crab Louie and whatever fresh fish Sean has on the menu that day. Lots of outdoor […]
Honey Pie Pizza

Honey Pie

Artisan New York style pizza and salad bowls in a speakeasy-esque space tucked behind the shops on College Street. Takeout and delivery also available.
recipe newberg

Recipe

Thoughtfully and beautifully prepared seasonal dishes with a hint of a modern French feel. A great option for an elevated but not too fancy night out. Open for dinner, reservations required.

Barley & Vine Tavern

One of our fave casual spots in downtown Newberg with a nice selection of craft beer pours, affordable wines by the glass and bottle, and bar bites (think nachos, soft pretzels and crostini). It’s a local and industry hang, too, so a great opportunity to experience more of this great community.

Rosmarino Osteria Italiana

After moving from their first location, Agrivino in Carlton, Chef Dario has set up in downtown Newberg and is serving up absolutely delicious Northern-Italian dishes with a fun schedule: five course wine paired dinner Thursday through Saturday, gnocchi and pizza on Sunday, and a salad and pasta menu on Monday. Lunch served Thursday through Saturday. […]

Ruddick/Wood

A dose of the Portland hip vibe right in downtown Newberg, with interesting and creative dishes with a local focus. We’re partial to the casual vibe of the tavern (head around the left side of the building to the back bar) and the Oregon wines on tap.

Red Hills Market

This is the place you will wish you had one of back home. Casual, delicious breakfast and lunches with the wine country farm feel that we love most about this area. Also a great spot to grab provisions for a winery lunch: local cheeses, charcuterie, breads, desserts, wine, cider and beer.
Jory Burger

Jory (at the Allison)

Fine dining, but still cozy and comfortable. Rather than a table reservation, we prefer cozying up to the chef bar to watch all the action in the top-notch kitchen. The dishes are worth every penny, and the local wine list is hard to beat. An elevated lunch or high-end night out.

Dundee Bistro

Casually elegant restaurant in the heart of Dundee, next to Red Hills Market. Their fish & chips are to die for, the wine list superb, and the housemade pastas and woodfired pizzas are always on point. In terms of atmosphere, they have a beautiful patio for warm days and a cozy fireplace inside for chilly […]

Brooks

If riesling is your thing, Brooks can’t be missed, but they have a full lineup of pinot noir and other whites, too. They also have a really fun tasting room team, a great food menu, a stunner of a view, and a constant calendar of events. It’s always a really fun time there, making it […]
Pura Vida

Pura Vida

Fresh and delicious latin-american cuisine on Third Street. We love the tacos, taquitos, and chile relleno. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Community Plate

Our favorite breakfast spot with a great location right on Third Street. Try the hash (and say yes when they ask if you’d like a mimosa).

Experience

Tour Cascadia

Tour Cascadia

Wesley, Jordan and their team have everything you want in a wine tour company: direct industry experience, great personalities without over-doing-it-ness, and a comfortable, safe and luxurious ride. They can put together a highly personalized itinerary or just drive you where you want to go; adventure (hikes, golf, fishing and more), culinary options and airport […]

Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge

About 15 minutes north of our homes in Newberg, the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge is a close-by, calm oasis filled with birds and other wildlife. It’s a nice little spot to go for a nature walk and get some exercise and fresh air without the long drive. ⁣The walks are flat and easy to […]

Miller Woods

Having a beautiful nature walk within 15 minutes of downtown McMinnville is a gift, and Miller Woods is a total local treasure: 130 acres of woodlands, with a 3.7 loop hike (easy with small hills, and runnable), two ponds, picnic areas and wildlife viewing opportunities. Day use donation of $5 is suggested. No dogs or […]

Shop

Pulp & Circumstance

This gem of a gift shop in downtown Newberg carries a great selection of cards, local pottery, art, jewelry, and other gifts in a sweet little house at College + 2nd Street, just a couple blocks down from our Cottage and Bungalow.

Red Ridge Farms

Tucked away up in the Dundee Hills, this is our favorite home goods, nursery and high-end gifting shop in the valley. Try the olive oil, and try your best to not buy every tea towel and beautiful handmade wood bowl in the shop.

Art Elements

Upscale gallery featuring local artists and art-related events.

Yamhill Valley Dry Goods

Casual everyday and outdoor activity clothing. Great stop if you need something for an impromptu hike or coast trip! !

Third Street Books

The perfect little independent bookstore with lots of local reads, especially food/drink related, and a mix of used/vintage finds within the stacks. Great for gifts and for the littles.

The Merri Artist

Charming art supply store on Third Street with a great selection and friendly, knowledgeable service.

Mes Amies

My go-to boutique – I think half my wardrobe is now from this fab shop! There’s a ton of variety of style and price, a great selection of accessories for completing your outfits, and a treasure trove of thoughtful gifts. I also love their good mix of Portland, PNW and west coast designers and makers.

McMinnville Farmer's Market

Open May – Oct on Thursdays, with local produce, meat, cheese, flowers and dry goods.

Flag & Wire

A third gen coffee spot in the Granary District, roasting our favorite beans in the area. Try the Woodsman (a killer cappuccino lightly sweetened with maple), or a pourover Ethiopian.

Harvest Fresh

We do all our grocery shopping here at this convenient spot on Third Street, within walking distance to The Park House. Lots of organic and local produce, fresh meats, cheeses, and dry goods in the bulk bins. For a quick, short-wait lunch, grab a sandwich or salad from the deli eat at their outside tables.

Varnum Vintners

Cyler and Taralyn will make you feel right at home at their homestead winery and tasting room in the Eola Amity Hills AVA. They produce lovely small production wines and specialize in Riesling and sparkling varieties – we stock up on their 375ml bubbles that are perfect for easy summertime deck sippin’. One of our […]
Furioso

Furioso

One of our favorite places to taste in the valley! Beautiful wine, stunning view, friendly and knowledgeable people in the tasting room. Our favorite patio for the summer months.

Domaine Divio

A gorgeously positioned cabin amidst the vines makes for the perfect tasting spot. We love that there’s lots of outdoor seating, a fireplace for rainy days, a perfect 10 of a cheese/charcuterie plate, a friendly hospitality team – and the wines are beautiful, too. Our guests receive member discounts, so make sure mention us when […]

Eminent Domaine

Located near the northern end of Ribbon Ridge, this perfectly situated winery is producing elegant and beautiful Chardonnay and estate Pinot Noir. They have one of the best views in the valley, and a large picnic area where you can bring a meal, buy a bottle, relax and soak it all up.

The Bitter Monk

Probably the best beer bar we’ve been to, anywhere. It’s a locals hangout but very friendly to visitors, too, with a great staff (say hi to Becky and Henry for us!), always a couple of cider options, and great people watching. No food served, but you’re welcome to bring your own in from nearby restaurants. […]

Ruddick/Wood

A dose of the Portland hip vibe right in downtown Newberg, with interesting and creative dishes with a local focus. We’re partial to the casual vibe of the tavern (head around the left side of the building to the back bar) and the Oregon wines on tap.

Winderlea

Pretty much every winery along the Dundee Hills’ Worden Hill Road is worth a visit – the views are stunning and the pinot pitch-perfect. Winderlea is one of our favorites, for the cozy and beautiful tasting room, upbeat crew, and fun food & wine events. Open during the week, appointments needed on the weekend, open […]

Soter (Mineral Springs Ranch)

One of the best views you’ll find in the valley, along with some of the most beautiful wines, and a truly stunning biodynamic estate. They have a cozy fireplace and host some of the best can’t-miss events.

Stoller

We consider Stoller a must-do when visiting the valley, for their deep local roots, the gorgeous wines, stunner of a tasting room and sweeping vineyard views. This is our favorite “wine country happy hour” spot, with a bottle of rosé and a nice lounge in the adirondacks while taking in the view.

Hazelfern

To-die-for rosé, a stunning tasting room barn space, and a really fun family making it all happen. There’s also Gamay on the way, which is basically life-changing news. As an added bonus, they’re just minutes away from our Bungalow & Cottage homes in Newberg.

Flaneur

A newer winery making waves in Carlton with high-quality, low intervention Pinot and Chardonnay. We’re really excited about the grain elevator restoration project they have going on – it’s going to be amazing! In the meantime, they’re open on the weekends for tastings next door, or by appointment during the week.

Brooks

If riesling is your thing, Brooks can’t be missed, but they have a full lineup of pinot noir and other whites, too. They also have a really fun tasting room team, a great food menu, a stunner of a view, and a constant calendar of events. It’s always a really fun time there, making it […]

Bethel Heights

Stunning views, friendly people, beautifully designed tasting room and of course, lovely wines. Their estate chardonnay is one of our favorites – whole cluster, mostly neutral oak, unfined. LIVE certified sustainable.

Flag & Wire

A third gen coffee spot in the Granary District, roasting our favorite beans in the area. Try the Woodsman (a killer cappuccino lightly sweetened with maple), or a pourover Ethiopian.

Elizabeth Chambers Cellar

Winery in downtown McMinnville producing pinot gris, pinot noir, and a delicious rosé. It’s an especially good spot for enjoying the weather spring through fall on their beautiful patio. Open until 7pm on Friday and Saturday.

Wolves and People Farmhouse Brewery

If you’re a craft beer lover, this place can’t be missed. Wood-aged, wild yeast, farmhouse style beers made in an old wooden barn on a working family farm in Newberg. Tasting room open Friday through Sunday.
