spots that are kid-friendly Kid Friendly in the Willamette Valley

It used to be that kids were welcomed just about anywhere in the valley, except bars that don't serve food; unfortunately, Covid-era policies have changed that a bit. Restaurants are still fam-friendly for the most part but check with wineries before heading out with the kiddos. Here are places that are particularly welcoming and appropriate places to bring the fam!

Evergreen Aviation Museum

Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum

McMinnville

See the Spruce Goose and take a water slide out of a 747, all in one afternoon. The aviation museum is impressive even if you’re not a plane person, and the adjacent Wings & Waves Water Park is a hit with kids of all ages. Just a 5-minute drive from downtown McMinnville.

McMinnville City Park

City Park

McMinnville

Just outside the front door of our Park House vacation home, McMinnville’s City Park is a real gem. There’s a giant wood play structure for the kiddos, the library right next door, an aquatic center, and a hidden lower park area with a creek, picnic tables, BBQ grills and trails. Continue up the other side of the hill for pickleball and tennis courts.

Heater Allen brewing in McMinnville Oregon

Heater Allen Brewing

McMinnville

Focused on German and Czech-style lagers, with a straightforward taproom in McMinnville’s Granary District that’s easy to pair with dinner plans. One of Oregon’s only all-lager breweries, small and no-frills but the beer is excellent. A favorite among craft beer lovers who appreciate traditional styles done right.

Root & Rye brewery in the Willamette Valley

Root & Rye

Carlton

Formerly the Crowing Hen, this is the sweetest little brewery tucked into the farmlands east of Carlton. It’s very family-friendly with plenty of room for kiddos to play while you enjoy a beer, and they have a delicious cheese and charcuterie plate. A fun detour if you’re tasting in the Carlton area and want a beer break.

The Horseradish restaurant in Carlton, Willamette Valley

The Horseradish

Carlton

Crave-worthy sandwiches and comfort food is what they’re known for! My favorite sandwiches in the valley. The menu is hearty and satisfying, and the vibe is casual with indoor and outdoor seating. A great lunch stop when you’re tasting in the Carlton area.

Abuela's Nuestra Cocina, McMinnville

Abuela’s Nuestra Cocina

McMinnville

Family-owned spot on Third Street serving recipes passed down through generations in the Fernandez family. The mole enchiladas and quesabirria are standouts, and the space itself is warm and personal, right down to the details on the walls. Prices are great, portions are generous and the margaritas are huge.

Pizza Capo

Pizza Capo

McMinnville

Our favorite pizza in McMinnville, but so much more than that. Insanely good arancini, seasonal veggie dishes from local farms, a lovely wine list and a beautiful and comfortable dining room with… [read more]

Wooden Heart Kitchen restaurant in Dundee, OR

Wooden Heart Kitchen

Dundee

We’ve been enjoying Wooden Heart pizza and other wood-fired goodness from their food truck for years, so I was beyond excited about the opening of their new brick & mortar restaurant in Dundee! … [read more]
