Finally sharing before & after photos and some details on the Newberg Cottage renovation – our first vacation rental home here in the Willamette Valley.
We purchased the Cottage with the intention of it being our home-away-from-home while we searched for land (which was proving to be very difficult). Back in 2016, we found it a big challenge to find lodging that had the style and level of comfort we were used to while fitting within a budget that worked for longer stays. When this cute little one bedroom cottage needing work came on the market in a perfectly walkable downtown Newberg location, remodeling it and renting it out when we weren’t in town was the perfect solution for us.

A bit newer than our other homes, the cottage had some charming details (coved ceilings, arched transitions, adorable built-ins) but still needed a complete overhaul. We didn’t have the budget to expand the square footage, but at 720 square feet there was space enough to comfortably accommodate two – it just needed to opened up and upgraded.

We created connection between the kitchen and dining room, completely redid the kitchen and bathroom, added a window in the shower for natural light, replaced all the plumbing and electrical, added a two-zone ductless system for air and heat, replaced the windows, freshened up the finishes throughout, and fixed up the front porch and landscaping. Every inch was made fresh and new while still keeping the charm that drew us to the home in the first place.
The result? A cozy and luxurious home with a modern cottage vibe, providing a more comfortable (and affordable) alternative to a luxury hotel room. The H U G E and fully equipped kitchen, big king bedroom and full-size laundry area make it perfect for longer stays, too! It worked well for us and continues to do so for our guests, which is the ultimate reward.
