Hi there! We’re Laura and Eric McGlynn. We met in South Florida in 2003, and were married five years later. Laura has been a bit of a nomad all her life, living in four states and ten towns within the US before winding up in Palm Beach County. Eric grew up in Westport, Connecticut, and attended college in Boston before moving to Florida to begin his career. Knowing that our someday-in-the-future home was somewhere yet unknown, we started traveling the world together in 2004 looking for that something next.
As lovers of food, wine, hospitality, culture and travel, we set out to create an independent and mobile lifestyle that would give us the opportunity to experience all those things, often and well. Our entrepreneurship journey began in 2014, when we purchased a commercial building in South Florida and began construction on Social House, a boutique community-based coworking and event space for creatives. That same year, we took our first trip to the Pacific Northwest, went on a small group wine tour, and fell in love with the Willamette Valley.
building a dream…
That same year, we came back for a short second trip, then a longer third one; the fourth trip was spent hunting for a home, because we knew we’d finally found what we’d been looking for. At the time, lodging options were extremely limited, and we struggled to find places to stay that fit our needs. That struggle was the start of View & Vine, and the catalyst behind us eventually purchasing and remodeling five different homes (from McMinnville to Newberg) over the next five years.
McMinnville, and this gorgeous home on Park Drive, has always been closest to our hearts. We left Florida permanently to move to McMinnville in 2019 and welcome our son Wesley to the world, and spent his baby years (and half the pandemic period) in this home… our happy place.
…and then changing it all up again
Two years later, we finally found the land we were searching for in Newberg, and purchased a five acre property, renovated the home, rehabilitated the vineyard, made some wine, developed a guest house on the property and… moved back to the east coast. (That probably wasn’t where you thought this was heading, but the lure of family called and we uprooted our lives once again.) The silver lining: we kept our gem, The Park House, and are thrilled to be able to continue to share it with guests visiting McMinnville and the Willamette Valley. We also travel back often, to nurture our relationships, taste all the new releases and enjoy this place that’s still our absolute favorite in the world.
We’re so happy to share the labors of our love and this crazy journey with you.
